Mid-Atlantic Locksmith Associations

Common Ground - Common Goals

This year, GPLA will honor locksmith associations located within the mid-Atlantic region of the USA. This region continues to experience explosive population growth, creating many opportunities and challenges for the locksmiths located here.

The availability of properly trained locksmiths is one of the issues that locksmith associations are addressing now. An increase in security awareness, both in the residential and commercial markets, as well as population and business growth, have been factors contributing to the increased need for locksmithing services. Many shops simply cannot find qualified technicians to sufficiently satisfy this escalating demand. By continuing to offer educational classes, the associations can help to assure that a supply of qualified, professional locksmiths is available to meet the demand.

Licensing is another issue that will require cooperation between regional locksmith associations. Several states in the mid-Atlantic region already have licensing requirements, and other states are experiencing a constant parade of proposed legislation. The associations can ease the burden on locksmiths servicing clients across multi-jurisdictional lines, by insuring that new legislation is consistent with existing legislation, and includes provisions for reciprocity between jurisdictions. By providing a unified front and pooling our membership numbers, we have a greater influence on an issue which directly affects all of us. Associations must take the lead by keeping our membership informed and involved in the process.

GPLA looks forward to seeing members of these associations at our 2002 convention. The continued cooperation among us will help us all achieve our common goals and project a more professional image to the public.
