Description:

The first part of this class will focus on lock picking. Lock picking is considered to be one the hallmark skills of the locksmith, and yet is frequently successful due more to luck than technical proficiency and knowledge of the underlying fundamentals. In this accelerated class, students will gain a better understanding of how to increase their speed and success rate through detailed instruction on cylinder construction, keyway recognition, tool selection, pin counting, pin testing, reading pins, lock tumbler mechanisms, picking techniques, and pick resistant tumblers. Previous lock picking instruction is not necessary, but a knowledge of basic locksmithing is required.

The afternoon session will cover basic master keying. Master keying has been one of the locksmith mystic wonders. Students will gain a better understanding of the various types of keying systems. Positional, permutations, rotating constants and control pins will all be demonstrated and students will learn to plan ahead to avoid common mistakes and pitfalls. The class will also cover working in unexpected expansions or upgrades.

A GPLA certificate suitable for framing will be awarded to each student.
